Community Council
The Community Council was established by Calvary Health Care Tasmania to advise on the management and disbursement of funds for community benefit projects. The community council administers two funds, the Mary Potter Fund and the Community Grants Program Fund.
Embedded in gospel values and the founding philosophy of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary the community council seeks to support individuals and groups within the community by providing assistance to people in need, thus promoting the dignity and worth of the marginalised.
Mary Potter Foundation
The Mary Potter Foundation was established in 1994 to provide a health care service for those in need of hospital care who may not be able to access the facilities of Calvary Health Care Tasmania for reasons of economic hardship.
Accredited medical practitioners make an application on behalf of patients, with both the medical practitioner and anaesthetist agreeing to receive the Medicare reimbursement only. The Mary Potter Foundation meets all ‘in hospital’ costs during the patients stay. All applications for assistance through this foundation come before the community council for ratification.

The two grant rounds each year are advertised in the three Tasmanian daily newspapers. Eligible ‘not for profit’ groups are able to apply for funding under this program.
